Vroom!

Above:  Enjoy our new educational music video, Vroom!, featuring singer-songwriter KeruBo and third grade students of Founders Memorial School in Essex Junction, Vermont!  Produced by Clemmons Family Farm through a partnership with BETA Technologies and Wilkins Harley-Davidson, the music video is about two women icons in US history: Bessie Stringfield and Bessie Coleman.  The video is part of JOY IN MOTION- Clemmons Family Farm's arts-integrated African-American history curriculum for grades K-12.
Vroom! is an educational music video celebrating the achievements of Bessie Coleman and Bessie Stringfield, two African-American women who pioneered travel on two wheels. In the early 1920's, Coleman became the first African-American woman and Indigenous American woman to earn an airplane pilot's license. In the 1930s, Bessie Stringfield became the first African-American woman to drive a motorcycle solo across all 48 contiguous states in the USA.  Both women were renowned for their technical expertise in operating their vehicle of choice (airplane, motorcycle), and for their courage and tenacity in refusing to allow gender and racial stereotypes prevent them from realizing their dreams.

Vroom! stars Vermont singer-songwriter KeruBo, who composed and sings the song "Vroom!", and Founders Memorial School students in Mrs. Kitchen's third grade class of 2023, who won a state-wide grade school competition for the best music video storyboard for the Vroom! music video. The music video features the original collage artwork of the students.

The Vroom! music video was produced by Clemmons Family Farm, Inc. through a joyful collaboration with Founders Memorial School, BETA Technologies, and Wilkins-Harley Davidson. We are sharing the video as a free arts-integrated African-American history educational resource for K-12 students and teachers in Vermont and anywhere in the world. The video is included in Clemmons Family Farm's Joy in Motion! curriculum- a special edition of "Windows To A Multicultural World" K-12 arts-integrated African-American history and culture curriculum.

Joy in Motion!

Joy in Motion is a special edition collection of lesson plans for grades K-12 drawn from Window 1 of Clemmons Family Farm's Windows to A Multicultural World curriculum: Traveling While Black. This special edition uses the interpretive theme of motion as a means to explore selected periods of US history through an African-American lens.  The curriculum and arts engagements place a strong emphasis on joy as a skill for resilience and resistance during challenging times.
Learn more about the Joy in Motion! curriculum by watching the tutorial video series for K-12 teachers.
